Job Description:

Our public sector client is looking to recruit a Head of Estates to ensure the cities school estates are fit for purpose and capital resources are maximised on a initial 6 month contract working on a hybrid basis in Brighton.

The main duties of your role will include:

• Identifies the annual capital and maintenance programmes, allocates the budget to the annual programme of works and manages the capital Basic need and High needs provision budgets
• Leading the managed contraction of the school estate, making best use of significant capital funding from the Department for Education through planned maintenance across educational assets and finding alternative uses for sites as they become surplus to requirement
• To oversee the Building Surveying function in Property & Design, managing the Team, budgets, the building consultancy service and the implementation and delivery of the annual capital and maintenance programmes of work.
• To lead in the development of sustainable construction and evaluating and implementing new technologies in building conservation to existing Council buildings
• Budget Management including capital funded and multi million pound budgets
• 5 direct reports and wider team of 18 including Senior Building Surveyors, Capital Development Manager and Building Managers and Contract Officer.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• Proven experience at a Head of or Director level.
• Strong leadership, strategic and budget management skills.
• Professional qualification in appropriate discipline, e.g. Architecture, Engineering, Surveying, or other building/construction discipline, or equivalent level of knowledge gained through experience
• Strong School / Educational sector experience
• Proven track record of major construction based projects.

Due to the specific nature of this role the client is negotiable on day rate.
