Job Description:

We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Software Engineer on a initial 6 month contract for a busy Government Department that delivers leading observational, climate change and scientific research and information. 

You will assist in delivering new software capabilities, tools and interfaces to third-party diagnostics for model evaluation. This includes working with Python 3 and Cylc 8 workflows in a Conda environment. You will also ensure portability across partner sites, testing, documentation and technical development support to transition to the next generation research verification and evaluation systems.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• Proven software engineering skills ideally with scientific software applications.
• Expert Python programming
• Linux
• Version Control ideally github
• Working within a defined quality-focused development cycle
• Clear verbal and written communication skills, including documentation

Candidates will need to hold current SC Security Clearance or be eligible to apply.

The role will mainly be remote home based with occasional office attendance in Exeter.
